What’s something you’ve been doing to start the ye What’s something you’ve been doing to start the year that makes you feel great?
Things I learned the hard way about splitboarding Things I learned the hard way about splitboarding ⬇️

🌌 You never know when something might slow you down and turn a day tour into an unexpected night out. That’s why it’s so important to carry extra layers, 10 essentials, and know how to build an emergency shelter.

🧥Heavy resort jackets aren’t ideal. Breathable layers, easy venting, and the ability to shed/add layers matter more when you’re climbing. Stop early to adjust before overheating. Choose lightweight or mid-weight merino or technical synthetics base layers.

🛠️ Lost screws and broken parts happen more often than you might think. Carry a repair kit and the right tools, and know how to use them. It’s also a great idea to double-check all your gear the evening before heading out on a touring day.

🗺️ It’s always a good idea to discuss 2–3 possible routes the day before. Follow avalanche conditions throughout the season, check the forecast and conditions the night before, and wake up with enough time to double-check everything and choose the route that best suits the day.

👯 Trusting your gut is just as important as having the right gear. Learn to say no, even when more experienced friends want to drop into a line that doesn’t feel right. Coming home safe is the real goal.

🏂 Switching from tour mode to ride mode can feel clunky at first. Practice your transitions at home before your first backcountry tour.

⛑️ An avalanche (AVI) course is essential, but practicing repeatedly is what truly prepares you to respond if something goes wrong.

💪 Splitboarding is WAY more physical than resort riding. Touring demands cardiovascular fitness and strong legs/core.

📡 Relying on your phone alone for navigation or emergencies can be dangerous. Bring a satellite device (like Garmin inReach, Spot, Zoleo), let someone know your route before you leave, and practice sending check-ins or SOS signals before heading out.

🏂 If your board feels uncomfortable, unstable, or awkward after multiple days, it’s usually a setup issue, not just “getting used to it.”

⛏️ Splitboard crampons are a game changer, particularly if you are learning, or ride in icy zones!

2025, so grateful for this year 💚 For the ups and 2025, so grateful for this year 💚

For the ups and the downs, and all the life lessons in between.

For what I had to let go of, for the new things that found their way in, and for everything that didn’t work out because the right things were still on their way.

Even with the uncertainty and anxiety, it’s been a big, incredible year, and I’m so thankful for the opportunities it brought my way.

If 2026 is as good as this, I’ll be pretty damn happy.

Thank you for being here and for being part of this khaotic journey 🤍
